A Case of Hepatic and Pulmonary Mucormycosis Occurred after Chemothrapy in a patients with Acute Myelocytic Leukemia

Abstract
Mucormycosis is an uncommon opportunistic infection that produces disease in immunocompromised or diabetic patient. We experienced a case of hepatic and pulmonary mucormycosis. The patient was a 48-year-old male with AML, who received intensive
remission-induction chemotherapy. In the neutropenic state after chemotherapy, we found infiltrating lesions in the lung and liver. Biopsy from both lesions revealed broad irregular non-septated hyphae with right-angle branching consistent with
mucormycosis. Systemic antifungal therapy with use of intravenous amphotercin-B (0.6 mg/kg/day) was started, and followed by surgical resection of lung lesion and debridement of hepatic lesion. But the patient expired due to recurrence of
leukemia
and
progression of mucormycosis.
